Using Facebook and Instagram Ads strategically
Meta Ads are still one of the strongest channels for DTC brands. What has gone is the era of simply launching a campaign and scaling it. Creative fatigue, rising CPMs and the iOS privacy changes have changed the game.
If you want to scale profitably on Facebook and Instagram today, a handful of lookalike audiences and a product catalogue will not get you there. You need a system — and that is what we build with our clients as a Meta Ads agency in Berlin. The wider logic behind it is the same one we set out in our guide to performance marketing in Berlin.
For all the changes, Meta is still the platform with the widest reach and the best creative testing ecosystem. Three reasons it stays essential for DTC brands:
More than 3 billion monthly active users across Meta's platforms. No other channel offers that kind of headroom at comparable CPMs — in the DACH region in particular.
Advantage+ audiences, broad targeting backed by strong creative, and first-party data through custom audiences work better than they ever have — provided you feed the platform properly.
No other platform lets you test creative as quickly or as cheaply. Work systematically here and you find the winning creatives that keep running for months.
Broad targeting works — but only with strong creative and clean tracking. Without that foundation, it burns through budget quickly.
Most accounts test two or three creatives a month. DTC brands that do this well test 15 to 30 new creatives a month. Creative velocity is the single biggest lever. Where the ideas come from matters as much as the volume, which is why we treat paid and organic as one pipeline — see our notes on social media strategy for DTC brands.
Without the Conversions API (CAPI), the algorithm can be missing up to 30% of your conversion data. That means weaker optimisation, higher CPAs and decisions made on an incomplete picture.
Too many campaigns, too little budget per ad set, no clear line between testing and scaling. Consolidation beats fragmentation.
If you only look at ROAS in Ads Manager, you miss post-purchase revenue, repeat rates and what Meta actually contributes to the wider marketing mix. It helps to start from your own numbers instead: contribution margin first, then the break-even ROAS that follows from it, then the account. The same arithmetic applies when you weigh up what a channel and its management cost you — we walk through that in what a performance marketing agency costs.
Every campaign starts with the creative, not with the targeting. We develop hooks, angles and formats based on audience research and competitor analysis.
We work to a structured three-phase model:
No blind budget pushing. We scale to rules that are written down in advance:
A working rule of thumb from day-to-day account management: around 80% of performance comes from the creative. Targeting, bidding and campaign structure account for the remaining 20%. That is why most of our time goes into creative development and testing — and why we use AI only where it genuinely shortens the production loop rather than for its own sake, which we go into in AI in performance marketing.
What testing tends to show:
Whatever you serve, the traffic has to land somewhere that holds up. A strong creative in front of a slow or unclear product page mostly makes the cost of a weak post-click experience visible faster, which is where conversion rate optimisation and, for Shopify brands, store optimisation come in. The same thinking carries over to the rest of the funnel when you are scaling an ecommerce brand.
Meta Ads remain one of the most profitable channels available to DTC brands in 2026. But the rules of the game have changed. Scaling well today means thinking creative-first, tracking cleanly and scaling systematically.
As a Meta Ads agency in Berlin we help DTC brands build exactly that system — from creative production through testing to structured scaling. We work with brands from a monthly ad budget of 5,000 euros upwards and have managed more than 25 million euros in ad budget across over 50 brands.
